Permission to print?
Discussion
Someone close to me was nearly murdered last summer by her boyfriend and hes just recently been sent down for 6.5 years for attempted murder
Question i have is this, its appeared all over the local newspapers and websites, now a case thats sensitive like this, can they print it and include names? Or do they need to ask permission
Shes quite upset its all come out to print

if the case details are in the public domain there is nothing she can do to prevent it from being printed in the media - unless a judge has imposed reporting restrictions
This is the case. Unless the victim is at risk (not just physically), a court is unlikely to impose a restriction.Edited by rover 623gsi on Thursday 7th April 17:20
It is an area of the court system that can have positive and negative effects. The media are not known for their heartfelt handling of reporting, but they are simply doing a service by reporting the results of proceedings.
It is much the same as the right of a person to attend a court to hear proceedings. Unless certain elements of a case are deemed to be of such sensative nature, they are held in open court.
