From BBC website

Actors complaining of funding cuts

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-13010...

Samuel West said the arts industry was the "second most profitable sector in Britain" and it was important funding continued to keep the sector going.

If the industry is that successful it needs a £450 million prop to keep going then there is no hope for the less profitable industries.

If they weren't so pretentious and spend thousands and millions on s**t (or "art" of some of them call it) then they might not need so much money.

Art never was a guaranteed earner; Van Gough being a prime example.

Some were fortunate enough to produce works that were deemed highly valuable and important in their own time, others relied heavily on the patronage of one or more wealthy individuals and the rest were poor.

If it's the second most profitable sector in the UK, why does it need my taxes?

Digga must have been thinking of Van Gough, van hire company in Middlesbrough. They painted their vans in an artful manner in a va(i)n attempt to fend off the rigours of the recession but it was all for nought and now they are looking for a bailout..

I have some difficulty in justifying government money going to art.

However i have way way way more difficulty with my money going towards chavs and non-jobs.

So if the government is intent of wasting my money then do please waste it on something that will be enjoyable to those that work. I don't see good art ever being enjoyed by the chav scum.

So while i can't justify it in any logical way i do support the spending on art.
