I know this isnt really of interest/car related.. but it makes me mad (on a number of levels) and wanted to vent that.

..

Person A (a good friend - lives in london) meets Person B in their locality en-route to pub.

Persons A and B are confronted by a small group of guys (late 20's/early 30s), who ask person A where he's from.

A, as a normal friendly person, simply replies his area, approx 3miles from current location.
the group of guys indicate he's in the wrong postcode "whats that, N13? thats near Tottenham, wrong postcode cos your in Arsenal"
With which A and B are instantly set upon before they knew what was happening.

Person A is left with a broken nose, black eyes, facial wounds [inc. cuts obtained from his glasses being smashed] and likely cracked ribs. As a result of the blows and subsequent kicks to the head and body whilst he was on the floor.

Person B is stabbed in the leg and then kicked whilst on the floor.

Person A is contacted by police that evening, turns out the Police have managed to catch the perps, and need some statements, however Person A doesnt know what to do.. says he needs to speak with his lawyer first and puts down the phone!

Person B is lucky and gets away with just a few stitches to the knife wound, however he lives in the area of the incident and wants no trouble from any investigations.

A speaks to B, where B confirms he wants no police involvement.. and tells A to just say he was drunk and cant remember anything.
Police again ring A again this morning, and A indicates he cannot remember. Police dont believe him, but cant do anything.. thugs are more than likely released/case dropped (?).

I dont believe this to be so straightforward as "footy territory/hooligans" given the unprovoked, swift and almost co-ordinated nature of the attack (both attacked instantly), had A; replied that his accent indicates he's originally from Canada the end result would have been the same.. these guys were just out for trouble i'd guess.

end result is that it looks like the thugs will get away scott free anyway.. and "unresolved" knife crime stat's get a +1. nice one. mad

Good work from the Police is p*ssed up the wall and another knife carrier is back on "his streets" ..

This country sucks sometimes.. i just dont get it/people.
Im not sure the solution.. but building more jails (as we're already over housed), and actually putting knife carriers in them would maybe be a good start.. would also give people jobs (jailers) and some of the cost of housing the inmates could surely be offset by the savings made in not paying the bloody dole/support money they no doubt claim.

fcensoreding scum.

Next time your friends complain about crime/police remind them that they are part of the problem. The police can't do anything if the victims pretend it never happened rolleyes

100% Agree.

Personally I would be reviewing my friendship with people who were so quick to call upon the emergency services but so reticent in helping prevent someone else from being attacked, particularly in a rare case where the perps. have been caught.

It's nothing to do with the police or 'this country'. The guy has to be prepared to be a witness.

It's nothing to do with 'this country'. Persons A and B are totally lacking in social responsibility - they are directly responsible for these thugs continuing to walk the streets. How are they going to feel if the same group stab someone next week who doesn't get away with minor injuries?

Person A(Your Good Friend) is retard.
Person B(Your Friend's Friend) is a retard.

The thugs will carry on regardless, after all they were caught and then released as no witness.

Genius.

My father-in-law reported someone behaving suspiciously outside his house and, to cut a long story short, he ended up being called as a witness in a related court case. After various threats, his caravan being torched and the police having to install a fireproof letter cage to his front door he withdrew himself as a witness.

It's not the social responsibility that is necessarily lacking but a collective belief that the law will be able to protect you. Most of us have a lot more to lose than the scum who know that justice in this country often falls short.

whilst i agree person A should go to the police, and is in fact willing to go, person B (his friend living in the area) is clearly scared of the consequences. hence the denial and my mate not wanting to cause this guy any problems..

however i disagree with saying the country has nothing to do with it.. when its this country and its laws that allow people to walk the streets with weapons.. whatever happened to the "instant goto jail for carrying a knife" ? .. but instead we just take the knife off them and tell them not to be naughty again.. .. at least that instant jail law would have the perps banged up right now (for carrying) and the victims wouldnt live in fear of being seen as a "grass" with the consequences that may bring.

whilst my friend earns excellent wages and can go live where he likes (he's looking to move now - having been previously mugged/beaten up aswell a couple years ago [where about half a dozen people stood at the bus stop opposite, watched and did nothing to help] and this being the last straw), his friend isnt exactly so fortunate to be able to move from the problem (that "grassing" may bring), its his friend that has also been stabbed so person A feels its not exactly his decision to make.. although the broken nose would change that you would have thought!

both guys are ok, which i guess is the main thing.. although it really hurts my mates face just to try and smile he said!.. (he's tried to laugh about it.. god bless canadians! smile )

I thought it had changed and the police no longer needed the victims to prosecute for exactly this reason.

Or is that only for wife beating?

Yes they should have gone through with but lets not be too tough on them, the perps would have got fk all sentence and the gang would have been out for revenge.

If the police arrested someone for carry a knife they probably will be charged with something, however they will have been released on bail because you can't imprison them without a trial for some stupid reason.

Your friends worrying about being a "grass" need to watch a little less of The Sopranos, or a little more. Whichever is the best way to tell them that people capable of tracking down a complete stranger just by a vague London postcode don't wander the streets stabbing people for being in the wrong area.

But yeah, it's society's fault.

The infamous postcode gangs.

I would certainly think twice about saying anything to the police if I was unfortunate enough to live in the area where it happened.

So, there would be no reprisals to the victims/the victims families if they bear witness against those thugs when the thugs in question receive their £80 FPN and a "don't do that again" slap on the wrist?

Unfortunately this is the answer.

9 times out of 10 these chaps probably will still want to be in or go to the area where they were attacked so don't want to make sure there are half a dozen blokes looking for revenge.

Exactly. This might seem harsh but I view this in the same light as perjury/ contempt of court and wish those who, effectively, shelter criminals - witholding evidence - were 'done' themselves.

You should show your friend and his mate a print out of these posts!

unfortunately this being the case. my mate had gone to meet his friend near his house and were en-route to the local boozer for a jar

he's chalking it down to "wrong time, wrong place" and trying to forget about it, i doubt he'll be popping back any time soon but the other guy hasn't much choice but to be out and about round there!

i spoke to him early this morning, after he'd spoke to the police initially, and he was up for phoning back the plod but left it that he wanted to clear it with the friend first, after he'd had a chance to check up his mate and see what he wanted, given his friend lived round there.

If its an area where this sort of scensoredt happens, frankly i dont think i'd want the local 'gang' knowing i'd put their mates behind bars.. not unless i could just drop sticks and move on without a care.. which is a pretty tough decision i should think especially if families may be close by.

ha!, yeah hunting my mate down by his postcode wasnt considered wink but his friend has greater concerns clearly, hence him having to say "sorry i cant remember".. and try move on from it.. although i should think knowing you could have put them behind bars but chose not to would be troubling in itself to move on from, and knowing him it is/will be playing on his mind.. (ive never known him to call me for advice! wink and certainly not at 2am)

hopefully if they were not already known by the police then they are taken note of now, although given their approx ages and the callousness of the attack i doubt it's been their first offence.

what sort of people would attack and knife others for no god damn reason? its pretty fcensoredked up.

anyway, here's hoping they'll wind up being man handled by big tony in the prison showers one day.
