I'm planning on going travelling soon and while I'm away will be letting my flat out so I gather I need to inform my lender / get their permission and may need to switch my mortage to buy to let while I'm away.

As I won't be working while I'm away but have enough savings to cover the mortgage for 3+ years and expect to be able to rent it out for slightly more than 2x mortgage payments per month am I likely to get told to do one by the lender if I want to let the property with no job / income other than the monthly rent or are they generally fine with this if I have the means to pay regardless of rental income?

I'd be interested to know this too smile How long are you planning on travelling for?

Indefinitely! biggrin

I'm off on a round the world bike trip so at a guess 4 years +/- a year. No rush to get back.

If your expected rent covers double your mortgage payments then you should be fine. I'm sure Scotal will be along soon!
