Just had a call from Visa to advise me that I brought a car in Kent on friday!

I haven't been to kent for about 20 years!

My card is only 1 month old and have have hardly used it, and online I have only used it for Paypal.

I am tempted to phone the car dealer and ask them to confirm the address the registration docs were sent to!.

I wonder if I am now going to get a bunch of speeding tickets etc.

Wouldn't they have needed some other identification to purchase the car too?.

Surely they would need to register the car to your address, no?

I get the feeling a whoosh parrot is on its way.

PayPal was your mistake, its a god awful thing ....

Its horrible when they do this, i was in the middle of nowhere a few years ago with just a single credit caerd in my pocket, went to pay for fuel and card got 'referred', was doomed for the day as had no cash and no means of getting any and was 40 miles from home on way to take a friend to lunch !!!!

She ended up having to pay and I had to do the round trip again to get my tax Disc back from the garage as they held it as collateral !!!

You have my sympathies.

What car did you buy ??

Oddly enough in my experience, no. I don't think i provided ID (or indeed a driving licence) when i test drove or bought my last two cars! One came from a Ford main dealer ,one from an indy dealer.

Something crap for £3500 apparently. You would have thought that someone would at least do it properly and buy a decent car.

As you said its the hassle factor that is the biggest ballache. I now have to change all of my internet security etc

Did you happen to use that card at a petrol station at any point?

I have been thinking about that, and the answer is probably no, i normally use a different card, so I need to wait until I get my statement

Could just be a dodgy dealer firing stolen card details through his terminal, as opposed to someone turning up with a cloned card.

would seem more likely....

no genuine dealer would take a card payment for that amount, their CC charges would be horrible....

unless it was a debit card. My bank card is Visa. And my dad's bank card is a visa. And he recently bought a car and paid over £17000 from his Visa card. This was at one of the largest BMW dealers in Europe.

I bought a take away curry a month or two back, except I paid for it twice in three days, then bought another £900 of curry the day after!!!!

The first I knew about any of it was when I went to use my card and it was blocked, called the card company and they said I had reported it stolen. Eventually got it all refunded and a new card but what a ball ache. The curry house tried to blame a delivery driver.... yeah right.
