How would I make a claim on a companies Liability insurance?

I need to make a claim on a companies liability insurance for damage caused to a vehicle whilst in their care. What is the process, do I need to go down the legal route or do I make a claim directly to the insurance company? I don't really want to deal with the company directly any more as I really don't think they are taking this at all seriously.
