Should I buy BP shares?
Discussion
Is it a no-brainer that the BP share price will rise from £4.62 back to it's highs of £6.00 after posting £3billion profits in 3 months?
Just thinking of doing a buy and hold for 1 year.
Any reason to think the price would fall for any reason?
EDIT* as of 28.07.2025 the price is still £4.05. Good reason not to buy.

Question: is it likley that the market would price in a "risk free" return on BP shares of 30% over the next yearIf yes, then fill your boots.
If, on the other there are company specific risks and significant economic / market risks over such a shoirt time horizon, then you might like to be a bit more cautious.

No one should take advice from anonymous internet posters when it comes to investing. EVER. The fact that you are even asking suggests to me that you are either lazy, naïve or a gambler and may as well go put some money on the roulette table. Could be all three tbh.

king hope so.

The threat of litigation still hangs over them from the Gulf disaster but they will keep that in courts for years (take a leaf out of Big Tobacco's book).....ultimately it's a very asset rich company that produces a ton of free cash flow which had become a bit too big and lazy (in operational and management terms). They are trying to transform it into a growth company again by selling non core assets and expand into growth areas....the market is waiting for proof of that.
I bought some and shoved it in my pension last year....I'll be keeping them for a long time. Over a year I don't have much of a view to be honest....

Not at all. It's always good to get opinions from other people. No one should take advice from anonymous internet posters when it comes to investing. EVER. What those opinions are worth is down to you to weigh up but of course you're right, I'd never pick stocks (or anything else) based purely on Internet forum chatter without doing my own research first.
Carry on.
