How long is a reasonable amount of time??

Ok,senario is this:

My wife held a pension for a few years with the company she works for.
A couple of years ago they merged with another company then after a period of time the original name was dropped and the name of the new company was soley used-effectivly a takeover.

They have changed quite a few things to bring them in line with other sites across the world(huge multi national)such as pay dates and one of those things was to change pension plans.

The employees were of course given the option to either move their plans across or cash them in.My wife,against my advise,decided to cash hers in.This was back in January and nothing has happened since.She has chased it a few times and the answer is always:'It's with the solicitors.'

My question is: Is this a reasonable amount of time to sort this or is someone taking the mick?

And before anyone asks,I do not agree with her cashing it in but it is her money so she can do what she likes with it.The amount is not huge,less than 5k.
