Considering one of these to reduce balance left in EUR account in Spain in case it all goes Pete Tong in the Eurozone

Anyone recommend a particular issuer?

If it's on a prepaid card, the money is still being held by a bank.

indeed, but such a card would reduce my overall holding of EUR at any one time by about 40% I reckon

All of which usually sits in a Spanish bank. The money to fund the card could sit in USD or GBP in a bank in another country outside the Eurozone

I would recommend opening a Citibank Euro account and putting the Euro's in there. While you're at it you could tick the GBP account as well, then you can transfer in and out of Euros as you want.

I use FairFx and no problems with the card or service.
You can check the rate on line and then top up on line, by phone (mobile OK).
I load the card with say £500 and then pay with the card, no charge, or draw the lot and put it into my French account, charge 1.5€.
other benefit is that if you lose the card or it is stolen then your liability or loss is restricted to how much you have on the card.
Like the OP I leave money in UK and move it when needed at a competitive rate it is very convenient.
