'Er indoors has just set up a new business (sole trader). Neither of us are particularly computer literate and we'd like a simple, easy to use accounts programme. Don't really need anything more than income and expenses. Not VAT registered and don't need to create invoices or anything like that. I've tried a few freeware ones, but they were just too complicated for what we need. Then tried Microsoft Office accounting, but even that's a bit too sophisticated for our needs. A simple spreadsheet would be ideal, but my expertise is so basic, I'd likely die of old age before I got it sorted.

Any pointers to cheap or free programmes appreciated.

Adopting a spreadsheet to cover income and expenditure is probably the best solution for what you are describing.

Will your Mrs be looking for the services of an accountant?

I'm not touting for business personally but she may find that a chat with an accountant will help her sort out the type of information she needs to be recording.
