Getting reports (unconfirmed) through Market talk of a possible UK downgrade, anyone else got any info on this? If its going to happen it will be after close I guess.

Seems unlikely. They are usually placed on ratings watch negative first (although not always) The last time S&P put them on negative watch it was done during market hours.

Careful! I can see the Bloomberg newsflash now 'PH rumours of UK sovereign downgrade' and our interest rates will be up 500bp in a moment.

Complete and utter bks.....the UK is on stable outlook with all agencies. Before downgrade they will put them on watch........they don't just announce these things out of the blue.

Still at least you knwo the quality of that newswire now....

I think S&P have said recently they can downgrade without first putting on -ive watch. Unusual but can happen.

indeed wise After the event me thinks. It came to nothing and indeed i doubted it would, my question was has anyone heard anything about this, not is it true.

Sure they can....but they'd never do it for a sovereign credit.

I've seen them downgrade a credit from AAA to CCC in one go biggrin
