Any PPI guru's on here?
Discussion
I (rather foolishly and in desperation) took out a secured loan with a firm called Swift Advances about 8 years ago, (which is now settled) and almost lost my flat due to their aggressive collection methods, and ending up losing a big chunk of my equity. With all the talk of PPI, I am debating trying claw some of it back with a claim. Problem is, I don't want to get involved with a PPI organisation unless I stand a reasonable chance of winning. Anyone on here know a decent company that will not hound the life out of me once they have my details, or better still know of a case of someone winning a case against Swift, as I am told they defend all claims vigorously .
Thanks

I am using Gladstone Brooks. They seem to know their stuff, take a chunk for themselves at the end of the process but its hassel free and i didnt have the money in the first place.
Then you have a made a mistake. You could do it all yourself (say, an hour writing a couple of letters and completing a questionaire) plus the cost of a couple of stamps versus 20-25% of your redress. Average is about c.£2.200. So you've given up £550.
Dont go through a company to try and reclaim PPI, it really is easy enough for you to do it yourself.
Im hardly an expert at anything and still managed to complete a stencil letter (taken from the Money Saving Expert site), sent it to Egg and they repaid me £4500!!
I still have the letter somewhere...ive pasted it below for you to use if you so wish.
Dear Sir or Madam,
Account number: [insert account number]
I purchased the above policy from you in [insert date] but now believe that I was mis-sold this policy for the following:
This is due to the fact that I was not given the correct information when the policy was sold to me, as
• your salesperson did not tell me that the policy was optional and I have since realised that I have alternative insurance cover.
• your salesperson did not give me full information on what the policy would and would not cover for example that the loan only covers/ed the first five years of my loan term.
• I am concerned the sales assistant that sold me the policy has no financial background and the policy was not sold in my best interests.
Unless you can satisfactorily justify to me that the policy was fair and reasonable I am requesting a full refund of all premiums, and subsequent interest on these payments, that I have paid to date. As I believe I have been deprived of this money I also expect 8% statutory interest, the amount a court would award, to be added to each payment made.
I look forward to a full and prompt response to this letter and for the matter to be concluded within eight weeks or I shall be contacting the Financial Ombudsman to investigate my complaint.
Yours faithfully,
