I've got £1500 here but some of it's ripped, chunks missing and perished but they all have both serial numbers..
Can I just take these to the bank and get them to whack it into a savings account or will I have to fill out paperwork?

It's worthless, I'm afraid.

Tell you what, I've got a shredder from Staples. Send the notes to me and I'll dispose of them securely for you.

Free of charge.

Take it to the bank, change it into fresh notes.

Spend it. The economy needs you, pubs are closing all over the country and you want to save. Selfish bd.

The bank teller might politely ask you where the money is from. At which point the correct PH response seems to be get the manager down, get annoyed at him, tell the cashier not to be so nosey, rip up your cheque book and close down all your accounts with them.

Or you just tell them where you got it from and they pay it in for you.

You don't even have to tell the truth...

With the utmost respect, £1500 isnt exactly a lot of money (unless of course your planning to keep adding to it?) so why dont you just have a decent holiday instead smile

He mighr have some CCTV footage of the notes slightly perishing in the cupboard over 20 years, plus a signed and witnessed statement from the dog admitting to having tore some up.

Assuming they are all Bank of England, you may have a couple of issues.
Bank of England will always honour it's own notes, however High St Banks will not accept old notes (Damaged or not) you need to "swap them" at Head office.

Over £1k you need a bit of ID / Info, other than that you can just say "found In put bottom drawer of our filing cabinet" If not local you can do it through the post (About £5 to send special delivery) and they transfer funds to your bank account.

Forms etc on Bank of England Website (Thinks at this point posting link would've prob been easier!)

http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/damaged_b...

Now as an aside, if your damaged portion of notes amounts to £1500, how many undamaged notes do you have! this should also serve as a heads up for folk stockpiling cash from the Mrs etc try & keep your notes current to avoid having this problem

http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/withdrawn...

Also check to see if you have any old notes in good order, people (like me) collect notes as others do stamps. People finding old stashes helps us (I've sold £20 notes banks won't accept @ £40each on e-bay)

Fax it over to the local bank, they'll pay it in no problem
