I have been trying to get a new phone this afternoon. I did a credit check with orange with a view to a £15 a month contract - and I am declined!!!

I have just done an experian check and according to them I have an excellent credit rating. The only thing it flagged up was that I have "no successfully settled non mail order accounts" but as far as I am aware I have no old accounts with outstanding debts.

I have 2 credit cards which are always paid off each month, no loans, no mortgage, a Full time, permanent job.

I have never had any bad debt. I do only have 27 months continual UK addresses, due to being overseas for a couple of years.

Is this just orange being an arse, or is there something I need to be looking at?

How many addresses in those 27 months?
Are you traceable on the electoral roll for those 27 months?

Your lack of credit history won't be helping you either.

Two rental addresses in the 27 months, both rental.

Also I have had the same bank account continuously for 20 years

Is that likely to be a hurdle for you, I remember being told that 'no debt' is not a decent credit record.

That thought crossed my mind too, but it makes no sense.

Its frustrating that all these shell suit wearing mouth breathers can ponse about with an iphone on contract, and they pull their noses up at me trying to get a basic smartphone on a 15 quid contract.
