Im buying a house alone, i have a little clio campus 1.2.

Salary after tax - 1450 a month.

Mortgage - 350

Bills - 200? (Its a very small house, the council tax is included in this at £70, so 130 for gas/leccy/insurance and a water meter)

Food/domestics - 200?

If ive worked these out well im left with 700 a month.

Now i would like to put away 300 a month for emergencies/car insurance to pay off yearly etc.

I live round the corner from town/shops and work, so fuel costs could be kept to 90 max a month if not less.

So im left with 320 pound leisure money, this would be ok wouldent it? for a month, i mean i can predrink at mine with friend etc and id probably go to town on a night out once a week (friends and girlfriend), maybe 2 meals and a few trips to the pictures etc

FWIW my wife and i have £80 leisure money each month to include spending on clothes and entertainment. It can go quite far if you budget carefully!

thats exactly what i was going to do, cycle to work, the shops are within walking distance. My car insurance is like 700 a year lol :/, what other costs will i need to save up for yearly?

Does the 200 pound bills sounds reasonable? and 200 for food?

food is likely to be a bit more, unless you can really get to grips with economy cooking: which is not hard, just tough to get the motivation when you live on your own.

:::also tv licence and phone bill to pay.

I think you'll be fine, and your utility bills will be less than that I'd say.

What sort of house is it? Detached/mid terrace? Will you be living on your own?

For comparison I earn less than you and my mortgage/rent is higher and I'm just about OK. If you budget carefully you'll be surprised how little you can live off.

Elec/Gas = £90 (old house, freezing so alot to warm up)
Water = £30

We spend £400 a month of food, but we buy some alcohol in that and also buy what we want, so £200 a person should be easy, especially if you are careful.

Seems fine, just don't go and splash out quickly, get some savings behind you.

if you bother to larn to cook, and buy in bulk basics, then you'll do well.

problem is, on your own it's just so much easier to get ready made food from tescos etc.

oh and we live on about the same wage and mortgage, but there's me, the mrs and three kids. we survive fine

Batch cooking! Devote a couple of hours a week, learn to make bolognese/chili/soup/tomato sauce.

Use your freezer well, plan meals in advance. Have a good stock of things like pasta/spaghetti and tinned goods (chopped tomatoes, tuna, canned beans).

And eggs, eggs are the king of food, so versatile!

I live on my own and eat two meals a day at home (breakfast and tea) and my weekly food bills are around £30.

Try and build a contingency for replacing/repairing home appliances - things like boilers are bloody expensive!

Otherwise it looks pretty sound.

get it through your phone then. If you pay 30 a month you should have a decent phone and contract, so tether your phone

internet needs to be through a landline otherwise really.

doesn't sounds quite right.

but yeah if you want internet other than through a 3g dongle or mobile phone, then you will need a landline.

most companies like talktalk, sky etc will do combo deals for quite cheap for landline and internet, but they are the rubbish companies!

how about bolting on a bigger phone allowance?

for that sort of usage, then you will need a landline.

start shopping around on moneysupermarket etc for combination landline/internet deals. you will need an unlimited connection though, as 40GB is a lot (Though I prob use way more!!!)

Virgin Media do broadband only via their cable network . Not sure if cables will have been planned or pre laid on a new estate though. If you can get it it's about £21 per month for 20mb (speed) unlimited usage

I doubt it , they usually do as many as possible in one particular area and then move on . It's quite an undertaking to get the infrastructure in place. Might be worth you going on their website , there is a section where you can enter your postcode to find out if the area is being served by them or if they plan to in the near future.
