My other half is self employed and she now has employment from 4 different companies. These are all centered around the leisure industry.
She works part time for one company and teaches in partnership with her sister she also works for 2 councils.
She travels between sites and needs different clothing etc for each one. She has not had an accountant before as she did not think she needed one. I think she needs one as she does not claim any mileage etc and i think she is missing out on things she could claim for.I've never needed one and have no idea what to look for or how much they would charge. She is worried it will cost too much.
Any advice will be helpful

As an employee she canot claim for travel to and from the places where she works as an employee.

What is the self employed aspect of her income?

Does she invoice any of these "employers" rather than recieve a salary/pay slip from them?

Hi- i know nothing about tax having always been employed by mod then police forces.
The other half teaches swimming she is in partnership with her sister and runs swimming classes with her.
She also works with councils doing swimming classes for them. This has only just started and i think she will be getting payslips from them

She needs to sort out her "status" pretty quickly.

Coaching and teaching - even when dealing with councils - is often paid on a "self employed" basis. If that is the case, she will need to ascertain from those who are paying her how they intend to go about this. She may even find that some will want to [pay her as "self employed" and others may want to pay her as an "employee".

You also mentioned the word "partnership". If she really has set up a proper trading partnership with her sister, then that is yet another permutation and those she is doing business with will need to know if they are buying teaching services from a trading partnership business or two separate individuals.

I think she needs to talk to an accountant pretty quickly before she finds herself in a mess.
