Sorry if this seems a stupid question to many, I would rather look a fool now than act like one and pay for my actions financially later on down the line. Im selling my car at present and im speaking to a potential foreign buyer who appears a genuine great guy. We are currently in talks over how he would pay if he was to fly over in person and look at the car. I am not really comfortable with giving my bank details out over the internet especially to someone who I havent met before. Paypal has been suggested but this to me doesnt seem a feasible option for several reasons but the main two being the fees attatched and the fact a Payment can be (with some hassle and a lot of work) reversed but I want a risk free method which is fairly (within 24 hours) instant... Any suggestions are more than welcome. He isnt comfortable with cash as it means he would have to bring it all with him which i can appreciate but at present this is the only method of payment im willing to accept....

Thanks in advance, again sorry if it seems a stupid question but you never know it may benefit others in the future as well as myself if nothing else...

I'm hoping it's not a Nigerian gentleman to which you are talking? rolleyes In any case I would be very cautious if cash was not an option!

I take payments on a daily basis by wire transfer, and pay suppliers etc. All they need know is the sort code and account number (it'll usually be the IBAN one if it's international BTW) and a name to confirm. Perfectly safe - your sort code and acct number wouldn't be printed across the bottom of every cheque you ever wrote if it wasn't wink

Usual rules apply, make sure it's in your account first etc.

Okay thanks Stu, As for the Nigerian - seems a really nice chap, been sending me flights and asking logistical questions, had several phone calls and speaks very good english not to mention the endless amount of emails containing detailed information flying back and fourth..... Im not easily led but i do believe he is genuine but wont believe it until the cash is showing in my account... im weary when it comes to my finances and details due to experiences ive seen friends have and disasters they have had to endure... Sorry if it seems a stupid question to many but like i said id rather look a fool now than look a bigger one when i post up legal advise about hunting a foreigner. smile

Anyway i no longer care now im the one whos having the last laugh, ive just won the nigerian lottery they just need all my account details and address.... i assume the reason they dont just want my sort code and acc number is because its a lottery win! They are going to transfer it immediately! ferrari dealer tomorrow me thinks! winkjester

Sorry another stupid question, The gentleman is asking for the chassis number to arrange insurance over there before he leaves. Am i correct in thinking he shouldn't need this? Or would this be normal procedure? He appears to of booked flights and has agreed cash on collection...

Cash is definitely the way to go.

Just a warning: with electronic transfers, make sure that the full payment is in Sterling to avoid exchange charges.

Normal procedure I think, as he won't be able to insure it on the current number plates, as they're (obviously) from another country.
