Quick story, Nana passed away so 6 months free council tax and then we get a demand notice of 3p. You cannot pay 3p by cheque or over the phone via a card so you go into the cash office and the automated machine only accepts 5p minimum. The woman behind the counter "Oh we get this a lot and keep a stack of 5ps behind here" actually gave us 5p so now they owe us 2p absolute madness just one example of why the government are wasting millions.

Why can't you write a cheque for 3p?

No idea why they wont accept a cheque for 3p. We have now overpaid by 2p but used the 5p they gave us Im waiting for them to write to us saying we have overpaid.

Its 'the system' they are probably not allowed to write off amounts or something.

I will probably be an automated system (albeit a very dim witted one) that sends demands regardless of the amount owed.
