Got a letter from Lloyds Bank today, with our account number, sort code and full name etc saying that there was a problem with our account, please contact us ASAP blah blah blah on what looks like genuine paper etc BUT with a mobile number as the contact number FFS!

Be careful out there!

It's probably genuine, I had a voice mail from a withheld number asking me to call my account manager and giving a mobile number. Naturally I phoned the number on their website instead and when I was finally put through to my branch, they confirmed the number I'd been given was genuine. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get the woman to understand how suspicious it all sounded.

A bit like when your bank calls you up and says "Mr Loafer? It's your bank here. I need to talk to you about something, but can I just take you through security first..."

No you fking can't - you called me, you muppet.

I love that one. "No, tard, let ME take YOU through security".

So how would you like security to work? Just talk away about your account, what if they misdial? You wrote down the number slightly wrong or someone else answers your phone?

I'd rather not have anyone call me about my accounts to be honest. Especially as it's invariably a marketing call.

I see, so if they are offering you to switch to a better account, a upgrade or to enquiry if you had thought about a offset mortgage you rather they didn't? That's fine however then you would be moaning that the big bad bankers would happily tie your money up in low interest accounts and how all the new customers get the best deals.

Unfortunately the banks can never do right even when they try. I just tick the no marketing box personally.

Do you really believe that a bank has ever phoned someone to offer them a higher rate of interest on their savings?

What age are you?

Never ever ring your bank on any other than the one you know. Don't reply to voicemails or disclose information when 'they' call you - hang up rink the number you know to be correct.

You will rarely get your account 'hacked' - usually you do something stupid!

Ahahahaha! Banks ringing me to try and make less money from me? Oh yes, that's how it works...

Personally, I prefer to take charge of my own finances and do my own research. I have never had any direct marketing that has ever saved me money once I looked into it in more detail.
From energy companies promising hugely reduced energy bills, that are nothing of the sort, to banks offering to move my accounts to ones that just happen to have nice fees on them...

So, no. I don't trust any direct selling technique because the point of sales is to make the seller more money, not cost the customer less.

Are you really saying that banks pay for call centres in an effort to reduce their profits and only ring us from the goodness of their hearts? If so, wake up and join the real world.

well, after doing a bit of research and a bit of ringing around on official Lloyds numbers - the mobile phone number is actually a genuine Lloyds Manager's number FFS - I just cannot believe that this is true - I am stunned!!!

I remember that from when I had an account with first direct (ex liked telephone banking. I don't). I said "you really expect me to answer that?" and hung up.
