Have a business account with them, and the service is st.

I don't think I'm alone in finding this either?

I haven't found any of their 'deals' to really stack up that well when you take into account all the applicable limitations.

Not had an account myself but my friend had an account set up in his name by a "friend" of his with San. He had set up this account without a letter to prove address or anything to prove who he was.

My mate found out when a statement came to his door in his name!

I've got three current accounts, two business and one private, never had any problems. The plus sides for me are free banking and being able to do my banking at the village Post Office and not having to go into town.

They're aholes*. Steer well clear.

  • Based on data compiled by me and verified against me using my own definition of the term 'ahole'.

I started a thread on these muppets a while back. Opened a savings account. My money routinely disappeared every time I tried to transfer some. Utterly, utterly useless customer service. I couldn't get rid quick enough.

For a balanced view, I've had a business account with Santander for over 12 months now and have not experienced any problems. I do most of my banking online and any cheques to be paid in are done through the in-branch ATM.

From where I sit it will be a cold day in Hell before I open an account with anyone other than First Direct or Barclays.

Barclays get a lot of flack but I have to say in 30+ years I have only ever had one issue with them, and that was resloved in a timely fashion and with a few notes for my trouble.

Whether I do this, or post them to the processing centre in the envelopes supplied, it takes three weeks to process!
The funds don't appear to leave the payees account until sometime after two weeks? I think they put them in a sack, and leave them for a fortnight?

To borrow a phrase from a mate "They are a den of s"

I had Alliance and Leicester, Bradford and Bingley and Santander accounts and ended up with 6 accounts there at one point. I closed them because their customer service was so utterly utterly ste. Highlights included not letting me close down an account because I didn't have a bank card (as one was never issued). I went in with a passport and was told I could not close the account but I could use the passport to order a bank card which would take three weeks. What happens then I ask? Well then you can bring in the passport, I will give you the card and then you can give it back to me to close the account! WTF??? Where's the logic in that?

Also not accepting a drivers license as ID because the address did not match. The reason? I was trying to get my address updated as Santander was sending statements to my old address and not my new one (the one on my license).

They also told me in branch that I only had 5 accounts and then I got told by their customer services on the phone that I had 6. I eventually had to go into the branch and hand over my mobile to let them argue it out.

NEVER EVER GO ANYWHERE NEAR SANTANDER. UTTER USELESS fkWITS

Have to say in balance that I've been banking with them for nearly 30 years and they've been alright.

However, it's been a long while since I've had to use their counter service as I only tend to use their online banking so I can't vouch for the quality of their staff.

My wife, however, still gets letters about an account she closed nearly 10 years ago so go figure!

For Santander read Girobank meets Alliance & Leicester. Probably OK for personal, was hopeless for business. (We gave up)

The Netto Of Banking.

Actually no... THAT is a gross insult to Netto smile !

As a repository for your money, they are mediocre-ok-ish. Any sort of service beyond that?

They reduced my overdraft limit without letting me know - that was an interesting month rolleyes .

Then they wouldn't acknowledge my complaint about it; I didn't apply for my overdraft limit to be raised to the original, 'they' said rolleyes . (Errm, no, I want my original limit back - the one you removed without telling me - as stated in my letter...)

An utter disgrace.

Manage your expectations downwards, then expect the minimum - and rejoice in being disappointed alongside me when even your new minimal expectations are not met smile .

Don't. Just DON'T smile ! They need starving into submission via the pampas grass inland...

"Cosmic shambles" somehow doesn't cover it smile !

I would honestly rather lick ps off nettles than bank with them again, painfully bad customer service and poor online banking system.

Absolute s**t. Don't go there.

My wife has an account with them.
Last year she went to change the account to her married name.

Card came back with Miss on it but with her married name. .
She asked them to change it. They never told her the card she had was being cancelled. So we only found that out when trying to get money out.

She now has a new card which also says Miss and her married name. After going through lots of hassle saying they couldn't change it without proof (the marriage certificate they took a copy of) and lost at least one form.

Useless.

I've been using them since 2006 and tbh I've never really had any problems with them.
