Why is it always so difficult to get through to a human being when you call HMRC? Sooo frustrating. Grrr...

If it relates to personal tax affairs, I have always called them on a Saturday morning around 9:30. They always answer the phone and it has always been somebody based in the UK.

When it gives you the 1 2 3 options just don't press anything, You will eventually get put through to a human, Then say what you want and they will put you through to the correct department.

This is definitely the best way. Also, always ask for direct dials for anyone you speak to; they don't give them out often, but they're very useful if you can get one.
