What could a person do with just your bank details?

Potentially, what could a person do with the following details:

• Forename
• Surname
• Bank Sort Code
• Bank Acc Number

Would it be the end of the world? Would my bank account get emptied? Surely much more information would be required to have any affect whatsoever?

Same information can be found on a cheque so doubtful it could be used for nefarious means.

Having said that those pesky Eastern Europeans are quite quick to exploit any loopholes in banking.

I'd have thought the most they could do is set up a direct debit in your name?

Set up direct debits.

They may get cancelled and refunded, but they certainly will be paid out first.

Good point about cheques.

If the DD gets setup then the DD guarantee would protect me in that situation.

I'm not worried, my Wife panics about such things and I can't see the problem.
