I booked to go on holiday and duly took out some insurance on the deposit which was offered by the company I booked with. That was a good move as after booking I got advised about my overseas expat assignment and the holiday was no longer feasible.

I paid £180 deposit and £10 for insurance.

I rang the company and asked to have a refund and sent off all the proof of my move, they then said it would take a few weeks to send me the money and asked for the IBAN etc

I checked my bank yesterday and noticed a foreign payment of £1620 and could not fathom out where it came from but after checking with the bank deduced it was from said holiday company.

Bank told me they cannot claim the money back automatically as its not a DD or auto payment.

Dilemma: I am an honest person, should I say something or keep quiet ????

A truly honest person wouldn't need to ask the question. Notify them of their error and find out how to pay back the overpaid amount.

It is a criminal offence top keep cash that has been paid to you in error.

But double-check first that it has actually come from the holiday company. smile
