Hello

Quick question I'm looking for a qualified answer to please. How important to mortgage companies is it when presenting work history? Let's say I have an opportunity but we are right in the middle of a mortgage application. Both jobs would be concurrent so no awkward gaps. The IFA has given me the steer that this will not be an issue but my view is that a mortgage company would view me as more risky? For clarity, I have been with my current employer for 23 months so technically, I’m not entitled to redundancy in my current position anyway.

It would depend on the new job;

Is it in the same industry?
Is it salaried or self employed?
Will your pay be more or less than your current income?
Will there be a probationary period?
Will the new job be taken before the completion of your mortgage?
Does the mortgage company accept an employers reference or copy of the contract as proof of income (as you will have no pay slips from the new employer)?

Same industry and same job role and title
Salaried
Same but with car allowance
6 month probationary period
Taken before completion of mortgage
Not known if mortgage company will accept an employers reference so I'll follow up on that point.

Cheers.

Depending on the lender, I'd say your biggest issue will be the probationary period. Even if the lender would accept an employers reference, if the employer states you have a probationary period and the lender does not lend to people whilst in the probationary period, your goosed.

I'd be concerned. Can you not delay the job until after completion?

I'm fortunate to be a position where the company have said they will wait for a while. Thanks Sarnie, you have confirmed that although this may not be the case with every mortgage company, it may well reduce the number of products available to us if I change job part way through the application.
