Think I've been the victim of fraud?

Just received a letter from a company called QuickQuid asking for an over due payment of £112 on a £650 loan.

I called the 0800 number and got through to an American company. They said to call back on Monday when their fraud dept is open.

Where do I go from here, is it a scam? Think I'll call the local plod.

Spoken to plod.

Advised to speak to the company on Monday, I've also got an incident number. Apparently you don't need a lot of ID to get a cash in hand loan.

Not sure how this is going to effect my credit rating.

We like photographic ID, proof of residence, and a wage slip plus NI number. That's it, really.

I'd google to find out if it is a quickquid phone number and not a scam for your details not from them.

Have you worked out if it is a genuine quickquid email?

It was a genuine letter from Quickquid, even included an account number.

I've done a bit of research and it seems to happen quite a lot. There are plenty of similar cases on the web.

So do you keep a record of these details? I presume once these details have been presented you just hand over a wad of cash, nice.

Yes a record of everyone and every transaction is kept. And yes, once the details are noted the cash is handed over. The bonkers interest rate and the profit it generates is diluted by the people who are stealing rather than borrowing the money. But it's still comfortably profitable.

I have recently been the victim of id theft. You need to register the fraud online not to the police, they then deal with it. It actually isn't your problem, you have only had your id stolen and no actual cash. If you have had cash stolen then the police will deal with you, but it will be between quickquid and fraudster.

Now check your credit files, I had accounts opened online with freemans, grattans, next and an online gift shop. Numerous searches in my name for bank accounts and store.cards, credit cards etc. the latter were more difficult to obtain due to lack of info but the home shopping accounts were easily set up.

Then you need to call them all separately and remove their searches, or disassociate you from the accounts, took about three months before my credit rating was restored. The credit card companies were a pain to get to remove their searches. Even more of a pain is having your details with cifas, as now I have to send proof of id everytime I want to open a new account etc.

Its kinda smug when you ring up and they say, "you owe us 900 quid, how are you going to pay?", "well actually i'm not, so please remove my name from the account and further more, remove all your searches from my credit file, thankyou" :-)

the cost to me was credit expert and callcredit membership while I was checking my file, equifax didn't have anything on me anyway and are rarely used these days. they all drag their heels when updating the file though, can be frustrating, but they are quick to add the defaults!

Good luck.

Blimey! sounds like a nightmare frown

Rang Quickquid today, tried to get through to the fraud dept but just kept ringing. The promised to call me back when a member of staff was free, guess what?
