tax relief - mileage - help please
Discussion
I am finalising my self assessment and want to sense check my mileage relief claim pse.
I travelled 22k business miles during the tax year:
10k miles claimed at 45p = £4,500.00
12k miles claimed at 25p = £3,000.00
Total £7,500.00
I am in the 40% tax category so £7,500.00 - £3,000.00 = £4,500.00
My employer paid me 15p per mile for all of the 22k miles = £3,300.00
Am I correct in asking for relief of £1,200.00?
Many thanks.

No, assuming 11/12 and your own car.I travelled 22k business miles during the tax year:

AMAPS = £7,500, amount claimed from employer £3,300 therefore you can claim the balance on your return of £4,200...will equate to £1,680 off your tax bill.
