So my statement is for for £500 for arguments sake. Since my statement came out, I have returned £150 item to store and the £150 is showing on my online CC account as returned and credited.

Therefore, my last statement demanded £500 to be paid but my current outstanding balance is £350.

Do I have to still pay the £500 by the 'due date' so as not to incur any charges? Or does the £150 credit get recognised as such and I simply need to pay £350 to pay it off and not incur charges?

In my experience the credit gets recognised as a payment therefore you should only need to pay the £350.

Not on my VISA or AMEX it hasn't!

I would call the CC provider and see if they would treat this as a payment, but the T & C's normally dictate that the payment due has to clear the balance owing at the statement date to avoid interest - the subsequent credit therefore is a subsequent periods transaction.

It has in the past with my Barclaycard (previously Egg). No matter what the statement said, the amount credited into the account since the statement was issued was deducted from the value of the DD payment. Although the statement said £500, the amount taken would be £350.

I agree it's best to check with the card provider.

+1

I had a £500 refund through Amex...I still had to pay it and then it was deducted off the next months bill.
