Further to my thread http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

I have been making enquiries into miss-selling even though I have gone down this road before but it all got stopped when it was found out that the seller of the policy was an IFA.

I have a bit of time on my hands at the mo' so thought it worth having another look especially as the endowment matures this year. The current company that holds it seems unsure if I get a terminal bonus which will mean I will get out less than I put in.

I have been in contact with the financial ombudsman who did ask me to collect all the old paperwork and get back to them. Yesterday I called them back with the name of the company that the IFA chap worked for and the company that sold the product. It would seem that the company is in liquidation and although the FSA might be able to pay out from a fund set of for this kind of situation, it only came into being August 1988 but my endowment was sold to me in July '88 so I have just missed out D'oh!!

The ombudsman chap did say that it might be worth getting a solicitors' advice but my question is:

Would it really be worth paying a solicitor to chase up a possible miss-selling that happened 25 years ago and trying to get money from a company that is no longer trading?

Sorry for the waffling but grateful for any advice, cheers.

The feuding family of late actor Sir Peter Ustinov may have lost his entire estate to the lawyers, it was claimed today, as their nine-year battle over his money continues.

The celebrated actor, director and raconteur - who was married three times and had four children - wrote his last will 36 years before his death, which has led judges to rule he died intestate.

The battle over the estate is still ongoing in the Swiss courts, more than five years after they ruled that the June 1972 marriage of Sir Peter and Lady Helene made his previous will – written in 1968 and amended by a codicil in 1970 – invalid.

But the fight over his estate continues as Igor Cloutier von Ustinov, his son by his second wife, brought proceedings to London’s High Court in a bid to freeze out his stepmother Lady Helene Ustinov.

After the hearing, in which Mrs Justice Proudman reserved judgement, Sir Peter’s son-in-law said that there is little left to fight for.
