Honestly mine is all done and settled....
However I've been asked to help someone that has their utr and gateway 12 digit id, however they have forgotten their password, three attempts then locks out..
So they can submit their details and request a new password by email, however that immediately cancels their existing one.
So do they
a. request a new one by email and hope it is a rapid automated reply with new password
b. keep on trying passwords.
Concern is they request new one by email and it takes four days and they remember their old password 5 seconds after they press the submit button...
Anyone used the new password by email function? If so how long?
Thanks!

Not likely as most of us use bespoke 3rd party software that doesn't need the password to be inputted every time a return is submitted.
And we should all have our important passwords written on good old fashioned paper somehere "just in case".
My main fear at this time of the year is having serious computer or internet problems.
I only have about four laggards to get in now so I am not too worried. These last four are all people who got their information to me very recently - despite being asked months ago - so I won't be too upset if the deadline is missed. I'll still try and get it all done by midnight 31st, of course.

You're doing very well Eric with just 4 to go.
I've only just stopped working for today and our whole team have been flat out for most of December and January. Each of our fee earners are down to their last few stragglers but with well over 1,000 tax returns between us, it is the logistics of chasing everything back in and checking submissions that is the real challenge this week.
Roll on midnight on Thursday!

How many in your team and what grades are they to produce this number?
Anyone there an expert on the interaction of NZ and UK tax by any chance?

I'm a smaller practice than yours. I have about 100 Self Assesment tax returns to do each year.I've only just stopped working for today and our whole team have been flat out for most of December and January. I had a former client turn up unannounced yesterday after a gap of six years (they'd been abroad). I'm not convinced I can get this return sorted in time.

Sorry, no experts in NZ / UK tax I'm afraid. How many in your team and what grades are they to produce this number?

2 partner firm, 11 fee earners who look after accounts and tax returns with roughly a 50:50 split between qualifieds and those still training, a number of other fee earners not involved in tax returns (either accounts only, or VAT/payroll) at all and a few administrators. 22 in all, but effectively been 3 fee earners down with 2 maternity leaves and 1 who has had major op. It has made Dec and Jan particularly busy, very lucky we have a good team who have all pulled their weight without exception.

New password requested, received and return submitted, thanks all.
What are the odds they will be on yo me next year again? High I fear, they have promised to do better next year....
SA is not a matter of "them being on to you". The key word in "Self Assessment" is "self" - which means the legal position is that the taxpayer is obliged by law to self declare sources of income that are not being taxed correctly by deduction of tax at source or otherwise would not be taxed at all. What are the odds they will be on yo me next year again? High I fear, they have promised to do better next year....
By submitting the 2011/12 tax return so close to the filing deadline, it is very probable that HMRC will already have set in motion the issuing to you of a "Notice to Submit a Tax Return" for 2012/13.
But, as I have pointed out, even if they DON'T issue that notice - and even if they issue you with a letter telling you that you do NOT have to submit a 2012/13 tax return - if you KNOW that you have income that needs to be declared, then you STILL must submit a tax return, no matter what letters or notices HMRC has issued to you.
Don't worry - I am well aware of what can be reclaimed and what is beyond claim.
The reason I couched my comment in the terms I did is that
a) the client didn't realise they had overpaid tax
b) they also didn't have a clue that there were time limits for recovering old overpaid tax.
We will be taking steps to recover what is recoverable.
