Is there any protection for someone who might exceed the new lifetime allowance even if they stop contributing to their pension pot ?

I am not talking about the pre 2006 protection rules but someone who thought they would never get to the £1.5m limit but now sees the new £1.25m limit rapidly approaching and is still 10 years off formal retirement age .

I think you are out of luck on that one.
I can help though.

Just send me the excess biggrin

Sounds like you made good use of tax relief!

Yes, the Government have stated that fixed protection of a £1.5M maxumim lifetime allowance will be permitted.

The form to do so will be available during the course of next tax year and will need to be registered with HMRC by 5th April 2014.
