Selling a diamond ring?

Whats the statistics of the stone and who is the valuation certificate by?
It seems some are quite liberal with their figures and a VS2 becomes a VVS1 and an F colour a D just because they say so.
For example, it could be
0.6 Carats
F colour
VS1
Excellent cut
And my wife's engagement ring is 0.5 carat. Which is equally irrelevant to the question posed by the OP.It seems some are quite liberal with their figures and a VS2 becomes a VVS1 and an F colour a D just because they say so.

Hi
Looking for some advice, I have a diamond ring which has been valued at £4000 and I have a certificate for, what is the best way to sell this? Anyone on PH specialise in jewellery dealing?
Thanks
How recent was the valuation? Surely whoever valued it could instruct you on how to sell it?Looking for some advice, I have a diamond ring which has been valued at £4000 and I have a certificate for, what is the best way to sell this? Anyone on PH specialise in jewellery dealing?

Failing that, you'd probably get £800 at cash converters. HTH
I used to work in the jewellery trade so can offer the following.
I'm assuming the £4000 valuation is probably a replacement figure for insurance purposes, so as with a car not the value you would expect to get if you are selling. How old is the ring?
My first port of call would a local jewellers that sells second hand jewellery (not an H Samuel or cash converters) a proper family run type jewellers. They will a) have a very good knowledge of what you have and b) probably be interested and in a position to purchase the ring. If you are in no rush they will also probably have a sale or return option to return you a better price.
Second option would be an auction house that has an arts craft and jewellery sale. Again, they would have a knowledge of what you have and be able to advise on the sale value. Whack it in with a reserve and see what happens!

What a stupid response. If the ring is actually worth £4,000 then a specialist would be best. If he's been told its worth £4,000 but actually its worth £1500 then ebay would be best.
