I run an online shop and frequently buy products from Romania. they can be as little as £40 to £5000. I know the person so sending it as a gift is no problem.
The problem I am having is the crap exchange rate on paypal and the cross border fees. Is there a way of avoiding these or can anyone else suggest another payment method which is cheaper?

Thanks

Best way is to set up a current account in the local currency and simply top it up when needed with a proper spot transfer.

However, this is probably implausible with the Leu.

If you use the same regular suppliers then frankly I would speak to them in regards to accepting USD / EUR or even considering Bitcoin. The latter being of obvious great interest to someone in Romania.
