£7 a btc when i first purchased some in October last year and currently trading at £129. I've made a bit, but could have been a lot more, as its all too easy to spend them bandit

only really good for buying drugs on silk road..

They used to be really cheap but are now really expensive as everyone piles in.

but it doesnt really matter as the dealers charge a fixed amount in GBP and the bit coin amount then goes up or down depending on exchange rate.

If your up for speculating on digital currencies then Litecoin looks set to be some healthy competition for Bitcoin. Early days in its conception so not as easily traded and currently worth considerably less, but with the promise of faster transaction times and easier mining methods, that could soon change.

Awesome graph. To digress from topic slightly, I'd like to know what the general consensus is as to where UK house prices currently sit on there.

That graph shows a possible (and rather crude) timeline for share values, house prices are a somewhat different entity. They have not crashed in the way that many expected them to, but this is at least partly due to outside influences in the market (i.e. government stepping into to bail out lenders), a general shortage of housing and also the fact that most people don't trade houses like they do shares.

Pretty much. It is a primitive explanation of an asset bubble, not just shares but commodities too. Showing how people get carried away in a frenzy - kind of how human psychology gets involved with monetary reward of tradeable assets.

Houses don't apply because houses are leveraged so if yours goes up you can't just snap your fingers and borrow another 500k to buy some more. Your purchase is governed by what you can borrow which in turn is governed by how much you earn. But buying £1000 of shares, watching them go up and buying another £500 is much easier.

I have only suggested putting £1000 in it, not exactly taking a life changing risk on the downside is it? When I invested I only used £3000.
Look at it this way: where on that graph would the internet as an idea sit today? Not everything fades away, somethings are genuinely new, useful and lasting. It's not an investment, it's a means of exchange that has none of the shortcomings of the common fiat one we all use today.

How do you go about buying them? I looked on the website and it seems you have to download software and keep the bitcoins 'stored' within the software as if they are physical items?

Also can they be bought and sold easily, like buying and selling euros? Or are they only really good for buying this with?

There will be pull backs just like in PMs but the secular bull wil persist, just like in PMs. The cryptos only vulnerability is stystemic such as govenments and their taxes, just like PMs.
It's like religion, you either believe or you dont. If you think we are living through the end of fiat money you will buy in, if you don't you will only see a dangerous bubble.
If this is the end of the fiat system then these are possibly the last opportunities to get out, if not you've bought a pup. When it becomes obvious it will be too late, to either get in or get out.
You will always be early if you want not to be late. Choose wisely, me included.
