My girlfriends brother has just returned from overseas and is looking to purchase a property. He has found a house for sale at £220k which he like the look of and has around half the money available in cash.

The issue is his youngest brother had taken the comment "yes you can get a contract phone in my name" a little to literally and ended up running up a few thousand in unpaid phone bills and the like.

Before he goes looking for a mortgage can anyone suggest a specialist broker or expert who may be able to help. There is no problem clearing all old accounts but hes not wanting his brother put in jail either wink

The hardest party of my application was proving my deposit, if he's earnt it overseas make sure he can prove it's from legitimate sources.

My sister in law had a similar issue when she and family came back from 8 years in the Cayman islands, had to jump through a load of hoops to use the big wedge they had saved up as a deposit
