What cost effective ways are there of transferring £3000 to a family member in the US as USD?

There is also the option of changing it to USD here and taking it over as cash at Christmas is that is cheaper.

This will be your cheapest option and you can enter the US with up to $9999.99 before you need to declare it.

Transferwise.com

Made by the same people behind Paypal so its all nice and safe.

Used them last month to send £1000 abroad and their rate was about £40 better than NatWest.
Got £10 back via TopCashBack.co.uk as well, if you're into that sort of thing
