Buying foreign/Euro shares

Been meaning to ask the finance brains for a while - any recommendations for dealing with foreign equities, ideally in smallish amounts?
Currently I use The Share Centre aka share.com, which costs me the higher of 1% or £7.50 per deal, plus transaction tax, plus £1.50 a month. Therefore with a deal of £750, I have to see about 2.2% return before the whole thing breaks even.
I've seen better for UK trades, especially when dealing in larger amounts, but not spotted anything for this yet.
Is there anything better, either in terms of flexibility or overall cost?
