Any seasoned experts on how to get the best out of Amex rewards?

I rack up a reasonable amount of expenses for work so decided that coupled with my normal spending on top I might as well get an Amex Gold card and start getting some rewards even if its just a flight upgrade or help towards a City break with the Mrs.

I have had the card about 3 months and coupled with the bonus points for taking out the card I am up to over 25,000 now. Probably about enough to buy a latte. smile

How do you use your points?

A search on here will bring up several threads, my personal choice is BA AMEX and collect the Avios and companion vouchers.

+1. If you shop in Tesco you can convert Clubcard points to Avios points too. I get about 40,000 miles just on that a year, plus my 1.5 points/£1 spend. Aiming for 2 first class returns to NYC next year. Current balance 73,000 so only need another 47,000 and should get 20,000 for referring the wife shortly.

I just converted 40,000 AMEX points into £200 Amazon vouchers. Not a great return, but almost as good as cash.

Got about 230 quid cash back after a years spend of about 12k. Platinum cashback at £25 a year fee. Called up hoping to swizzle my way out of the fee and ended up actually cancelling it, oops! Thinking about opening an account again.

I have about 110k avois and over 100k MR

My plan is spend the 20k on my BA one, get the companion voucher, then put anything else on the Gold to get the MR points.

MR points wise im prob going to go for the £500 harrods vouchers.
