Nosey people watching as you put your pin in?
Discussion
Yesterday I had some fat old guy trying to watch as I put my pin in at a service station and had to tell him to stop watching and just had exactly the same thing with some young eastern bloc lad at a cash point?
Paranoid you say, well never has this happen before then twice in two days so just a bit bemused. Might pop out later to change my pin though they can't do much without the card.
Weirdo's why can't people respect each others privacy.

yes they can, the skimmer takes an imprint of your card and they watch over your shoulder for the pinParanoid you say, well never has this happen before then twice in two days so just a bit bemused. Might pop out later to change my pin though they can't do much without the card.

I'm getting worried about paying for a certain brand of fuel.
A couple of weeks ago my card didn't work first time and the cashier said the chip needed cleaning. I couldn't understand his accent at first so he tried to take my card from me.
Next time I went in there was a sign on the pump saying "hand over your card before fuelling". Of course I didn't.

Am I alone in being paranoid enough to only ever pay for fuel with cash?A couple of weeks ago my card didn't work first time and the cashier said the chip needed cleaning. I couldn't understand his accent at first so he tried to take my card from me.

I just cover my right hand with my left or my wallet and it makes it pretty invisible. If you want to be doubly safe, add in a few fake button presses under your hand.
I'm with you on the fake buttons. I've 'perfected' now, so that even unshielded my figures look as they are pressing different buttons.

Yep , That is what gave me a mind f**k .
What are the banks telling us to look for here, or not. ?
I was none the wiser after I had read the article I linked to.
The scratches around that green device that you pictured looked well dodgy to me.
Another thing :- that article is three years old !!!
I had never heard of them before today.
You saw one of these yesterday =

Yup, Sunday I took those pics, and that was the first time I'd ever seen one, or indeed any other device (legit or otherwise) fixed to a cash machine. What are the banks telling us to look for here, or not. ?

The market seems ripe for a change in skimmers now, instead of trying to make them thin and grey, just make them big and green. After picturing this machine I watched 2 other people use the machine and they didn't bat an eyelid. ... or maybe they were back there to try to retrieve my card details from their green device!

k because of the scratches around it, that would have stood out to me too. Some machines have them on, I would have tried to pull it off before using it and then had a good look around for people watching.
