Hi all.

I went to get a coffee from a well known chain this morning and found that the receipt given to me had the full card number and expiry date on it.

I don't often check receipts like this but when I have I normally see that the card number is blanked out bar the last four digits.

Is the first instance normal?

have they given you the customer or merchant copy?

Customer is usually blanked out whereas their copy isn't

It varies. Some do all but the last 4, some do the last 4 only and a few do the whole number.

Our systems used to print out the whole card number. New systems have been installed now from a diferent provider and now only show the last 4 digits.

It's probably the merchant copy that you were given, customer copy normally only shows the last 4 numbers.

Very helpful.....as an aside I think that Friday, when I have my hair cut, will be the first time I've paid cash for something in well over a month!

As a merchant, a till operator, or someone behind them in the queue? What about contactless cards, as they are quicker than cash?

In the q, I'm sure contact less will speed it up but until it's the norm I will keep carrying a few quid in my pocket.

Don't ever stand in line behind me then.... everything - no matter how small- goes on the amex, or visa if they don't accept amex.

Why? To collect reward points?

current rules are first 6, last 4 for merchant copy, and last four only for customer copy. the card scheme rules do not allow any retailer to print the full pan, they'd be in trouble if its found out.
