So, the tax year clock is about to tick over so another S&S ISA comes in to the reckoning.

I keep it simple with high dividend yield stocks and look at any capital growth as a bonus and have spread my pot across various FTSE100 companies.

Anyone have any advice on where to put this year's allowance? (I'm fairly risk averse but wouldn't mind a smallish investment in a higher risk venture).

How about outside the UK to diversify (accepting that many FTSE100 stocks are pretty global anyway, so if you've got FTSE100 index funds instead of individual stocks you'll already have global banks, oil and miners)?

You could go for low cost physical ETFs in other markets. If you'd still like relatively low risk large cap dividend payers EUDV or USDV (some say US highly priced atm), for some outside UK exposure, not filtered by dividend history H50E (Europe large cap), Pacific ex Japan HMXJ (quite a lot of big mining, S Korea electronics and Australian banks and big retailers in there) or global giants (VWRL) for some more risky stuff, emerging markets VFEM.

If you want to go really wild you can buy lean hogs, soya or gold ETFs or inverse or forward contract ones!

I used not to get round to doing ISAs until March but then converted to the drip feed approach across the year.

Interested to hear about this too. I tend to max an ISA out each year but would be interested about other investments available.

Indeed, and when comparing remember apples & oranges - same dates, dividends included or not?

On a crude measure of just the share price from 28-03-13 -> 28-03-14 the broad index ETFs prices were as follows:

FTSE 100 +3.49%
H50E +15.17
VFEM - 12.02
USDV +4.13
EUDV +11.32
WRL +4.46
HMXJ - 11.01.

If you'd gone for a tracker in Greece's largest companies, GREK +65.1%
