Looking at improving my home/personal financial analysis and was wondering if anyone can suggest a suitable alternative which will allow me to see what our split monthly/annual spend is on all household costs/transport/fuel/cars/food etc.

Currently just using a very basic monthly spreadsheet to show outgoings and income but would prefer something to allow me to see where we stand month on month and year on year.

Thanks in advance

You Need A Budget works well for us. You allocate monthly income to various 'pots' and you can see exactly how much is left in each via an iPhone app at any time.

Spreadsheets offer more control, but works well enough if there are multiple spenders against a single budget

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I'm going to try out YNAB first as it has a trial period, when I've got that one up and running I'll also set up Quicken and see how they compare.

I've used Microsoft Money for a few years now. Its free and you can keep your personal finance information local.

Have just found a download link for Microsoft Money so will also try that to see which works best for me. Seems like I'm going to be a busy with all of these for a month or two but I think it's important to evaluate them all to see which I feel most comfortable with.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, will update with feedback at a later date.
