Probably not but I've paid in expired cheques in the past (once by mistake and once on purpose, with a little prayer) and they've both been honoured. AIUI, it comes down to the diligence of the cashier that first handles it. Once it's in the system, it's in.

If it is for a lowish amount the paying bank won't be checking for technical errors and omissions. Cheaper to pay up on the odd claim that ensues rather than look at thousands of cheques every day.

Surprised it wasn't picked up when paying in, though.

Quite incredible really, when you think what the whole point of a signature is.

But maybe there are no chequebooks to steal any more.

So when did you remember that you forgot to sign it? Can you be sure you forgot?

I forgot to sign a cheque that went to DVLA and they sent it back with a letter saying this cheque has not been signed.

From a company that are normally renowned for mistakes/missing things i was quite surprised smile

Sounds a bit like the Environment Agency. They overlook the 5 mile stretch of river rendered unnavigable by weed, but will send a little man out to stick a Caution Notice on your boat for not having a 2" high reg number on display.

There is a floor limit in the clearings team to re check cheques. The floor limit is different at different banks but below £2000 is a safe bet that it wont have be re checked.

If your cheque was under that limit then after it went past the teller in branch it would not have been checked again.
