OK What The Hells Happened To The Stock Market Today
Discussion
Two things, money parked in cash has to be invested eventually so we saw a natural cyclical rise that was probably overdue from the tail end of December. But more notably, and predictably, the Eurozone deflated officially yesterday and the possibility of EQE is now stronger than ever. Fund managers were ready and waiting and decided to pile back in when the price is still low. The interesting thing will be to see where the money came from; was it predominantly reserves held in cash or did bonds experience larger than normal outflows? I doubt it.
It may be up today but it's still down on where it was at the start of the year last week.
I should argue that it's one of those arguable situations where a big issue is oil and it's a big plus to those outside of oil and a big minus if outside it. Good or bad depending on your point of view.

I can see I'm not cut out for this high finance lark, as that makes no sense to me. I think.
I won't get excited by anything other than quarterly increments. It's nice to get a quick gain but it's far more important to get the big picture right. Ignore the blips.. the small peaks and the troughs, and instead, scan over the horizon first. Getting a few years pension (backdated) contributions backdated for a high earning professional couple today who had lost all their child benefit as well due to their income was the big picture.
Selecting the funds by identifying the inclination and capacity for risk and loss was the distillation of that, the easy part. They had been blissfully unaware - their win through tax relief and reclamation of state benefits runs into many, many tens of thousands before fund performance even kicks in. I would allow myself a cigar.. if I smoked. Identify the force multipliers first, get the handle on the screwdriver as long as possible - and only then, sweat the small stuff.

The FTSE is only up 2.3% (following a pretty crap week) - calm down!
Still a significant move (on EQE chatter).
I'm of the view it's a bear rally however. We've broken the 200 day MA to the downside and made a series of lower highs and lower lows in recent weeks.
I'll fade this rally
