Share certificate and buyout
Discussion
Looking for some help here as I'm feeling very much out of my depth
I bought some share in Dragon oil back in 1998. They didn't do very well at the time, so they just got left sitting. Got a few dividends for a couple of years, then they decided not to issue any so correspondence dried up, and I pretty much forgot about them. I then moved house a couple of times and somewhere along the way the Share Certificate has disappeared,
Then about a year ago I received a letter from Capita (the registrars) about something, that had been forwarded from my old address to my parents then given to me. So I went onto their website and did a change of address form - all good.
Now Capita have been in touch again as DGO is about to be bought out by ENOC. Just had to fill in the agreement form and send it back with my share certificate. Bugger. So sent form with letter saying share cert lost.
They have written back saying a new share cert is £167.50, and I need to provide two Utility bills in my name for my current address and for the previous address (neither of which I have got).
Does anyone know what will happen if I don't get a replacement share cert and the company is bought out? I've been through the booklet of info i was sent about the takeover, and there is nothing in there.

The charge is to pay for an "indemnity". In other words insurance for the company to cover the possibility that you are no longer the real owner of the shares (being unable to produce your share certificate). I think you will find there is no choice but to pay up.
