Where Is the best place to exchange 20k of euros into pounds?
We have been to Thomas cook (with half of the money) but their exchange rate is terrible.

Does anyone have any recommendations where to change a large amount of euros?

Thanks

Last time I did this (but pounds to euros) I used moneycorp.com

That said your not really going to get a great rate at the moment.

Sadly there is no really good way to do that in the UK, you'll get scalped just about everywhere. There are a few small money changing operations in the City of London, where they will always be paying out EUR and you may be able to negociate a better than advertised rate for doing a transaction in size, in the opposite direction to the ones then normally see.

Otherwise, find someone with a EUR bank account in France/Germany get them to do the deposit and then internet transfer(much cheaper than cash) it back into GBP (or use it to fund their holiday home or whatever).

Not really he answer you wanted, sorry.

If you are in London try Ace FX - they have a shopfront in Canary Wharf and another one on London Bridge. They tend to make most of their money selling Euros so when buying from you you will probably get within 100bps of the spot rate (e.g. spot is 1.36 they will buy at 1.37 - currently showing 1.367 on their website). If you ring them in advance they may do a better deal. No affiliation just a regular customer. Incidentally they wont take EUR500 notes, but then almost nowhere does these days.

If you have a Euro account stick it in there then use Transferwise to convert to Pounds and transfer to your UK account.

bank it into a Euro bank account and then use HIFX.

I've used them a lot.

Thanks for all the replies. I have access to a euro bank account in Germany and i have transferred money that way before but always got less then expected.

Thought I would try bringing cash over this time but maybe that wasn't the best idea

That's because you send euros to a gbp account. You will get converted to gbp by your bank at a terrible rate. Just use transfer wise. If you don't understand how it works call them up they will help you.
