India Funds - Educate Me
Discussion
So would like to hear the PH view on India funds, currently wanting to invest in a foreign fund to diversify a bit, having discounted China funds I have looked at India Funds. As such I'm interested to hear anyones view, wether it's for or against. And if anyone has any fund suggestions I'm all ears.

Mid-2013 to early 2015 saw substantial growth, it's been downhill since! It's volatile so timing will make a huge huge difference. I hold an Indian fund so to give you some idea over the past 5 yrs its been: +2% / +45% / -8% / +20% / -34% India has a good population demographic, similar to Brazil.
Growth can be internal (domestic) it can prosper without world growth.
Single country funds are a bit like pinning the tail on a donkey, you may hit it you may not.
An Emerging Market fund or asian fund could be a better choice. Maybe there is one that is overweight on India that might suit
Or maybe split the investment 50/50 India, emerging.
I don't think India is a bad choice, I have exposure myself.

Thanks for your replies, as its going to be a relatively long hold on this purchase for me, I think I'll go for it and see how I ride the fluctuations.

Is it specifically only funds your looking at?
There were some decent bond investments available last year, off the top of my head Reliance had a 5yr secured bond available with around a 6% yield.
I'm open to all suggestions and have never looked at bonds in great detail, so thanks for that I'll have a look. There were some decent bond investments available last year, off the top of my head Reliance had a 5yr secured bond available with around a 6% yield.
I've been liking Jupiter's offering. It's been around some time, I think I have had a modest holding for about 7-8 years, have taken a bit of profit and made (on paper) 180% on the rest. But past performance and setting fire to your house and all that....YMMV, DYOR....
I'm happy to be in it for the long term - maybe another 15 years - as despite any number of negatives you might rightly cite, there's a country with much potential to my mind. And I've always considered it has its advantages over China - language and beaurocracy balancing with the downside of corruption!
