I worked hard in my early 20's and now have what can only be described as a good 'lifestyle' business, basically the software I added took my job away but I've retained a nice salary. For various reasons it can't be expanded so it's just is what it is.

My problem is that I have far too much free time on my hands - not only is it the devils playground but I'm envious of my friends who do the normal 50+ hour weeks. I don't really care what I do but would like it to be, a) profitable, b) legal. My various thoughts have included - running an airport taxi service but using high end cars (it would suit my area), buying a bar (seems like a lot of hassle), starting some sort of import company buying things from China and setting up a sales infrastructure. But surely there's better ideas than this?

E-Commerce. That'll fill your spare time.

Since I went part time, I fill my spare time with pub lunches. I'd strongly recommend it.

A job you enjoy?

Retrain to work in a profession that (again you enjoy) yet the money does not matter.

If you don't need money, charity work and hobbies can fill time. A neighbour retired recently and absolutely loves driving a local hospice's minibus around.

Sorry, I was a bit flippant earlier, but really pub lunches are a very positive addition to the day.

One other thing I do which builds on the above suggestions is mentor businesses under the Start Up Loans scheme. It's really rewarding and although it's voluntary you often get bought lunches / dinners / beers or you choose to accept those with the people whose company you enjoy.

Also, you could look at becoming a Non Exec with a few different businesses and get some variety and some extra income.

Definitely!

Or if you feel your business experience could benefit others, why not act as a mentor to fledglings.

As previously mentioned e-commerce could be an option?

I am also in a similar predicament and considering another e-commerce site.
