So I was out last night and managed to get given a torn fiver. I never noticed until this morning. As you can see part of the note is missing. Glad it is only a small amount of money but rather than bin it I wondered if the bank would give me a new one ?

Serial number is intact which is the important bit. If you're in Scotland I doubt there'll be an issue, England or Wales might be a bit trickier.

IIRC the banks have a policy on this. You need to fill out a claim form and surrender the note with form to the bank. They will check that no other person has claimed the other half and credit your account with the money. It takes a while for them to do this.
I would just set fire to the bit you have and get the satisfaction of having money to burn.

Could you take in the other half a week later?

if both serial numbers are visible, fine. If one of the serial numbers is lost, you cannot spend or exchange it.

I got one of these in change from a hotel in the Lakes last month.

Tried to spend it the next day in London Town.

I got laughter, not success

I sold something recently and got given a £100 scottish note. Two in fact

I suspect the only place that will take them in London is a bank
