When submitting a business expense can I use a bank statement.

It is for a train ticket. Clearly marked with the station purchased at and the train operator name.

This is for an umbrella company.

What has the fact the company sells umbrellas got to do with anything? hehe

There is no reason why it won't be acceptable but it'll be down to company policy.

There is no VAT to claim back so should be fine.

Ask your provider.

I wouldn't allow it, but umbrella providers are dodgy as fk, so probably will...

You should also have the small receipt the same size as the travelcard though, right? and many of the places give you a till receipt

Otherwise I guess it's a mileage claim for however many miles cover the value of the rail fare....

I used to work with a guy who travelled by train and then claimed the mileage as well as the train fare. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it didn't work out well for him in the end.
