Would I receive a tax rebate?
Discussion
If you have just the one source of income the answer to your question is probably "yes".
PAYE spreads your personal allowance across 12 months (about £1,000 a month) but if you stop earning after, say, 6 months you'll still be entitled to have the 6 months which they haven't yet given you - if you see what I mean. At a guess that would be £500 a month x 6 months = £3,000 refund. Naturally it all depends on your overall income tax position.

Not automatic as it's an unusual event.
When I moved to Australia in 1981 amid tax year I wrote to HMRC stating the facts and they sent me the refund after my employer sent in my P45.
I had a great time and returned to the UK in 1983 the day Australia won the America's Cup and PM Bob Hawk cried on live TV.
The nice person who did this for me may have retired by now.
